Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Mangrove [Rhizophora sp]
They thrive in salty environments because they are able to obtain fresh water from saltwater. Some secrete excess salt through
their leaves, others block absorption of salt at their roots.
All Rhizophora species have arching stilt roots that emerge from the trunk, hence their scientific name Rhizophora which
means "root bearer" in Greek.
